This Couture Evening Gown in the collection of the MET was my original inspiration for the Marie Antoinette costume. I know, you can't tell. But, hopefully next time I wear the costume it will look a little closer to this.
How I ADORE this gown. It's so divine! I would have loved to wear this (in white) as my wedding dress. But, I was afraid it would look a little too over the top. :) Someday I would love to incorporate the swirls and bows of this ruched trim into a costume.
I was on the Met Costume website and saw this incredible piece of art work as well. Loved it when I saw it. If I recall, several and I mean several years ago (I'm talking 1991 or 1992) the Met had a Victorian clothing exhibit nuts to bolts it was called something like the Empress and her clothing what a WONDERFUL exhibit...I didn't take any pictures...
ReplyDeleteI know you can reproduce this I am sure of it.
Audrey, It may have been the exhibit 'From Queen to Empress' - I think that was at the MET. I have the book, the costumes are really beautiful! That would have been amazing to see in person. Here's a link to the book on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Queen-Empress-Victorian-Exhibition-1988-April/dp/0810911787/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1275071954&sr=8-1
