1940s Dress Flat Patterning

In my flat patterning class my classmate, Elisabeth, and I are creating patterns for these two lovely 1940s dresses. I'm creating the above dress to fit Elisabeth, and she's creating the dress below to fit me. On Tuesday we'll have a fitting to see how well we did!
I love the above dress - isn't it lovely? I'd love to one day make a 1940s dress out of some blue-green silk that I have in my stash. Vince purchased a 1940s suit several years ago, but we've never gotten to dress up and go out together in 1940s attire.

  2. I just found you blog and website. What a marvelously talented young woman you are! I love history (especially the civil war era) and had a grand time reading every detail of your reproduction clothing, and looking enviously at the photos. They are absolutely beautiful. I look foward to future posts.

  3. Hi Barbara,

Thanks so much for your lovely comment! I'm glad that you could be inspired by my work - I always love looking at other people's work for inspiration, too. :)

  4. Hi i am rather fond of 194o's clothes... so "inexpensive" (compared to all the rich silk and velvet of other years) and yet so very flattering at the same time...

thanks for the piccies you have such a great site

  5. I'm really interested to see what you come up with - both dresses are gorgeous, but my first impression was that the top dress was knit, not patterned up.
