I&#39;ve had it for about 7 years now and only take it to the shop once a year for a good cleaning - it&#39;s never had any problems and always runs great! I would definitely recommend Bernina for an excellent sewing machine.<br /><br />I like the book &quot;Complete Guide to Sewing&quot; by Reader&#39;s Digest. I don&#39;t think it&#39;s still in print, but there are plenty of used copies out there - Ebay, Amazon, etc.<br /><br />Hope this helps you get started! I spend most of my days doing engineering stuff--which has also prevented me from doing much reenacting--so conversations with Lindsey about fashion design of the Regency Era, for example, are a welcome relief. Coupling my basic knowledge of standard history with her immense knowledge of costume history has been a lot of fun.<br /><br />And I know Lindsey has so many more ideas and experiences than what shows up on this blog...so we thought I could occasionally post--sort of as her assistant/student/scribe.
