Cooking at Fort Hunter

Several times a year my mother and her good friend, Audrey, cook at Fort Hunter Mansion and Park in Harrisburg, PA during the museum's special events. This year I finally had the opportunity to join them. I didn't have the time to make myself a new 1860's dress for cooking - like I had hoped - but the experience was still fun, nonetheless!

My mother, Nancy, cooks kale and tomatoes over the open hearth. An apple crisp bakes in the dutch oven at the back of the fireplace.

Audrey prepares a dish while talking to museum visitors.

Sausage and Apples with Brown Sugar and Cinnamon.

Apple Crisp.

My 1860s working attire from years past.
