Alphonse Mucha

If you love the work of Alphonse Mucha, you'll be thrilled by the stunning headdresses created by Raven Eve Jewelry. The intricately beaded headdresses are lovely and would be perfect to wear with an evening gown or a costume. All of the designs are heavily influenced Art Nouveau designs like those by Mucha.

Speaking of Mucha, here's another great link to pictures of his work at Olga's Gallery.

Vintage Poster Art

Just when I feel a little uptight about designing costumes, I return to my favorite Vintage Poster Art images for inspiration. Somehow, the art of this era helps me to remember that it's okay to loosen up a little with my designs. I'm sure you'd never guess, but sometimes I can be a stickler for historical accuracy and sometimes find it hard to design things that are not beautiful historically accurate creations - a necessity in a costume design class. ;)

Here are a few of my favorite artists from the 1880-1920 era:

EnjoyArt.com is a fun site to browse through for inspiration.

Know other great artists from this period that I'm forgetting? I'd love to add them to my list, so tell me about them!

Art Nouveau Painting

::: Art Nouveau Painting :::

I saw this fun poster in one of the Anthropologie catalogs, displayed as wall art in an apartment. Isn't it great? I love the style of paintings from this era. Some of the costumes worn in them are fun, too. They're definitely a huge inspiration to me, despite the fact that they often advertise Absinthe and Cigarettes, two things I definitely don't indulge in!
